I took my Jeep in with a SIMPLE clutch problem. Pick up. Go to store. I go to back out of my parking space it won’t go into reverse at all, as if i was trying to shift into gear WITHOUT the clutch! I knew it was a clutch problem: pedal feels spongy, loss of travel, reverse only grind. Signs of air in the clutch hydraulic system. And umm, there’s also the fact that it was shifting fine before they worked on it. I take it back. WEEK later, NO CHANGE. I tell my girlfriend I’m going to fix it and take it back and confront them. I kid you not, I reverse bleed it, 30 minutes, shifting BEAUTIFUL! I ask my girlfriend to come with and listen so she could hear this! I told her that I was going to go over with them the problems with the clutch: soft pedal, loss of pedal travel etc. Then ask him if he was sure it was the transmission. If so, I wanted to have them rebuild it for the $2000 they quoted me. With my girlfriend listening, they told me my synchros in my tranny were going out, and that the new clutch was putting “pressure” on my transmission and it won’t shift into reverse!! The OWNER, and BOTH of the guys that work in the office, same story. At this point I tell them I bleed the clutch and it shifts great. They claim 3 mechanics looked at it. Interesting. It was laughably easy to fix. I informed them I also know that reverse has no synchro. Mark starts stuttering and says “well let me get you the owner”. The owner checks out the clutch and says they “made a mistake”. Really? I don’t believe that for a second. Phil said he has 27 years experience. There’s 8 mechanics in the shop. With Phil’s experience and the cumulative experience of every mechanic in his shop, they couldn’t figure out how to bleed a clutch? We caught them red handed. My gf heard every word. You should of heard 'em all blubbering when I told them reverse has no synchro and I fixed it myself in the driveway! HA! Phil, YOU are a LIAR and a CROOK! You should be out of business.
Thanks, Brian for the bashing. It's well deserved. We Made a mistake. I told you this and admit it. 2 technicians spent hours bleeding the clutch, we even tried different manufactures parts to get a better pedal. Unfortunately after several hours of working on what should be a simple thing This was the best we were able to achieve. The original parts were no longer available for your older Jeep, thus requiring to use aftermarket. How you were successful in 30 minutes is unclear. I'm glad it worked out for you. You made a comment that we were going to F**K you, I assured you this was not the case. We would never had charged you for work not needed. Obviously by this upset review we have probably lost you as a customer. I asked you if there was anything I could do to make up for the mistake and inconvenience. I dont know what else to do for you at this point, just know we do value you as a customer and hope to regain your trust. Sincerely Phil, and Litchfield Auto Repair
